Alice Bidebecker is the best Senior Counter Intelligence Analyst the NSA has ever employed but, after a little under a year in the job, she is feeling underappreciated and disillusioned by the lack of recognition of her work in the male dominated work environment. During a particularly difficult week, she is approached by a strange man in the park during her lunch break. He wants her to work for him, to protect his secrets using her extensive cyber expertise. He claims to be working on a major scientific breakthrough and offers her a new life in Europe and millions of dollars for her services. After agonising over what to do, the toxic work environment, the realisation that she no ties to her US life and a heartfelt note from her now deceased mother convince her to take up the offer and leave the NSA without warning. Her disappearance sparks a major crisis in the US intelligence services, as they desperately try to find her and seek explanations for her apparent betrayal.
As the initial investigations get underway, a link is made to a missing Professor and his assistant from the University of Minnesota, who had been working on some highly sensitive infectious diseases studies. As the full extent of the scientific project is revealed in the ultra-secure European hideaway by a bunch of ruthless business men from the US and UK, Alice begins to realise that not everything is at is seems and her world spirals into crisis. Thrust together with the Professor and his assistant, Alice has to rely on the help of one of the guards, her cyber geek friends in the virtual world and ultimately her old team to tackle the crisis head on.
Greed, betrayal, conspiracy, murder. Can she survive?
